Every boy’s mum knows that while you may love your little rascal (rascals), it can be a struggle being the only woman in the house. Luckily for Alexis Brett, it looks like for her, the 11th time was the charm!
After becoming the first mom in Britain to give birth to a staggering 10 boys in a row, Alexis Brett and husband Davie thought nothing could surprise them anymore.
So when she fell pregnant for 11th time, the couple were so sure they’d have the eleventh son.
But it turns out, life had other plans in mind for the 39-year old mom as she welcomed her 11th child into the world, finally giving birth to a beautiful baby girl.
Alexis, a former nurse who retrained as a fitness instructor, recalled:
“I was absolutely gobsmacked when I found out we were having a girl. I just didn’t really think we were capable of making a girl. We barely thought it was worth finding out the gender, because it’s the same every time.”
“We decided to do a little gender reveal for the family though, as the boys were so excited – when we opened the envelope and found out we were having a girl, I thought they’d got it wrong.”
“It would have been just as exciting to have another son, because I love having boys – but I am thrilled that I’m not quite so outnumbered at home anymore.”
And when the beautiful baby girl, Cameron, was finally born, Alexis expressed her joy saying:
“We’re over the moon.”
“I’d been expecting to hear we were having another boy. But when I found out it was a girl, my face was a picture.”
“I was shocked, but delighted. Now she’s here with us, it’s a fantastic feeling.”
The couple insists Cameron marks the completion of their family, which also includes Campbell, 17, Harrison, 16, Corey, 14, Lachlan, 11, Brodie, nine, Brahn, eight, Hunter, six, Mack, five, Blake, three, and Rothagaidh, two.
Laughing, Alexis said:
“We’re definitely stopping now. There’ll be no more. I said that last time, but this time I absolutely mean it. I love my family as it is now.”
The mom also revealed that they weren’t trying for a girl throughout her many pregnancies. In fact, Cameron wasn’t even planned. But she was happy all the same.
Although Cameron’s birth means that their house will be a bit more of a tight squeeze, Alexis says that she doesn’t mind one bit.
Cameron’s presence seems like a novelty to the boys who keep poking their heads to look at the new arrival.
“David and I sometimes look at each other to say, ‘What have we done?’ But when the boys come out with something funny and make us laugh, it makes it all worthwhile.”
