An activist and former NFL star, Colin Kaepernick, launches a ‘defense fund’ to help pay for lawyers for Minneapolis protesters.

Recently, a former police officer killed George Floyd (an African-American) after pinning him to the ground and kneeling on his neck.

For about 8 minutes, Floyd pleaded he ‘couldn’t breathe,’ but the ex-officer ignored his plea. As a result, Floyd, who was unarmed, lost consciousness and later died.

Now, thousands have taken to the streets throughout the country to protest his murder. And police have been arresting protesters in various cities.

Police Brutality against Black People Has Become One of Society’s Most Lethal Issues

According to an analysis published by LaTimes, about 1 in 1,000 black men in America dies at the hands of police.

It’s the Harsh Reality

Study leader Frank Edwards, a sociologist at Rutgers University, said:

“That 1-in-1,000 number struck us as quite high. That’s better odds of being killed by police than you have of winning a lot of scratch-off lottery games.”

This makes black people twice more likely to die at the hands of cops than white people.

And despite the harrowing statistics, nothing much has been done.

Brittany Packnett, an activist and member of the White House task force on policing, said:

“This epidemic is disproportionately affecting black people. We are wasting so many promising young lives by continuing to allow this to happen.”

Things Seem to Even Get Worse

Just a few weeks ago, the tragic killing of Ahmaud Arbery made headlines throughout the country.

An ex-cop in Brunswick shot Arbery to death while the young man was jogging through the Satilla Shores neighborhood.

Yet another tragic incident occurred recently, involving a black man and 2 white police officers in Minneapolis.

During an arrest, a cop knelt on George Floyd’s neck, resulting in his death.

This incident has sparked outrage, leading to violence and riots in over 75 cities across the country.

And Now a Famous Figure Has Spoken Out in Support of the Protests.

Colin Kaepernick is no stranger to the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement. He has offered his strong views on George Floyd’s death.

Taking to Twitter, Kaepernick Shared His Unadulterated Thoughts

As Forbes reported, Kaepernick is working with lawyers in the area to offer legal assistance for protesters.

He wrote on Twitter:

“In fighting for liberation, there’s always retaliation. We must protect our Freedom Fighters.”
