Cops busts elderly California couple transporting 60lbs of marijuana — they claim it’s for ‘Christmas.’

I want to know whose grandparents are these. Mostly so that they can be my grandparents, too.

Patrick Jiron, 80, and his wife Barbara Jiron, 83, were carrying a massive stash of marijuana in their truck. And when cops pulled them over for, they insisted it was for ‘Christmas presents.’

It all started when police noticed the couple’s car crossing the centerline, without the driver using indicators. The couple was driving from Clearlake Oaks, California, to Nebraska.

Deputies then pulled them over.

And as soon as the officers approached the truck, a strong smell of weed, coming from the couple’s Toyota Tacoma, stuck them.

When they asked about the smell, Patrick admitted to having contraband.

The officers conducted a search, and inside the truck’s topper, found more than 60lbs weed, worth more than $300,000.

Wait, It Gets More Bizarre

The deputies asked them where they were taking the cannabis. And the couple claimed the cannabis was for Christmas presents.

The couple also said they ‘did not know it was illegal to transport marijuana.’

These are some lucky family members they’ve got there: All I ever received for Christmas from my grandparents were a pair of socks and some vague religious propagandas.

The officers afterward arrested the couple and charged Patrick with cannabis’s possession with the intent of delivering it without a drug stamp.

In addition to the plant, the officers also confiscated processed products, including concentrated THC containers.

Marijuana isn’t illegal in Nebraska. However, the state requires a dealer to get a tax stamp.

Under this law, the couple would have been responsible for around $96,000 in Nebraskan taxes. Or $100 per ounce of cannabis, as well as applicable rates for any product they had while in the state.

Nowadays Cannabis is Becoming a lot More ‘Accepted’ in Mainstream Communities

However, not every state — or every person — is on board just yet.

33 states have already legalized marijuana for medical use. In these states, you can only buy it with a doctor’s recommendation.

Out of this, 11 states have legalized cannabis for recreation use. These states are Alaska, California, Colorado, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, Oregon, Vermont and Washington.

A few more states are planning to legalize it for recreation use by the end of the year. Such states include New Jersey, Arizona, Montana, South Dakota and Mississippi.
