Emotional Moment 89-Year-Old Pizza Delivery Driver Is Given $12,000 Tip Fernando Canton An 89-year-old pizza delivery driver gets a $12,000 ‘surprise tip’ from the ‘TikTok family.’ Derlin Newey is an incredible 89-year-old who doesn’t even act his age. He’s a brilliant man who works 30 hours a week at Papa John’s Pizza in Roy, Utah, to cover his bills and expenses. Now, his life has taken a completely different turn after one of his ‘regular’ customers surprised him with an ‘enormous tip.’ Recently, Newey was delivering pizza to the home of TikToker creator Carlos Valdez. That one day changed Newey’s life in the most amazing way. While standing at the doorstep enjoying a friendly conversation with the Valdez family, Carlos recorded their interaction. Carlos then shared the footage to his TikTok followers, where it quickly went viral. And fans fell in love with kind-hearted Newey. With more than 53,000 followers, Carlos received comments asking why Newey was delivering pizzas at his age. The family agreed that he shouldn’t have to work so much and decided to use their platform for some good. So, the TikTok star set up a fundraiser via Venmo, and people all across the country sent donations. Within a few days, they raised $12,069. Carlos explained: “It’s insane. Everybody loves him.” Carlos and his wife then set off to Newey’s mobile home to deliver the ‘tip’ to America’s new favorite pizza delivery driver. They told Newey: “We collectively collected a gift for you so I’m here to deliver that gift to you on behalf of the TikTok community.” Footage filmed at his home shows Newey reduced to tears when presented with the money. Newey didn’t even know what TikTok was when he was handed the check! He said: “Is that an online group you communicate with each other through the telephone?” Then, after receiving the money, he said: “How do I ever say thank you? I don’t know what to say.” Turns out, Newey lives alone, and he started delivering pizzas because he couldn’t afford his bills on social security alone. Meanwhile, the Valdez family hopes Newey can use the money for bills and medical expenses so he won’t have to work so hard. Carlos said: “This couldn’t have gone any better.”“He needed this. I’m just glad we could help him. We just need to treat people with kindness and respect — the way he does. He stole our hearts.” Newey didn’t expect such an enormous tip, proving being kind is priceless.
