A fugitive from Ohio is
under arrest for making threatening comments against representative
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez through a Facebook post.
Alexandria, an Ohio representative, was threatened by Timothy Ireland Jr, a 41-year-old fugitive who is also facing charges for illegal possession of ammunition.
Timothy is from Toledo, and this is not the first time he has found himself on the wrong side of the law.
“making an interstate threat”, he also faces charges for being “a felon
in possession of a firearm” and a third charge for being a “fugitive in
possession of a firearm.”
The man did not deny the charges that he threatened the female representative on Facebook. As a matter of fact, when
the police asked him if he made the threats, he readily admitted to the
offense and admitted that he was ‘very proud’ to have made the
The Facebook post that
had the police look for the man said: “She should be shot. Can’t fire
me, my employer would load the gun for me.” He posted the comment on his
About the firearms in his possession, Timothy said that the guns were always with him. He went on to claim that he used them for hunting and sports. To further validate his claims, he alleged that everyone knew of his firearm possession.
But his boldness does
not help things considering that a fugitive from the law may not have
such privileges. That is why he is also facing charges of firearm
possession while a felon and a fugitive from the law.
The police were tipped
off about Ireland’s threatening Facebook threats on July 23. The comment
had a link to a story on Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
This is according to a news report by the NY Post. Once the authorities
realized the comments, they went on to arrest him on August 2.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a Bronx-Queens Democrat.
However, this is not
the only thing that the accused was guilty of. There were two other
outstanding warrants against him before he was taken in for making the
death threats against the representative. In particular, he was facing a
‘felony failure’ to appear in Sarasota County in Florida over a parole
Also, there was a
‘misdemeanor failure’ for his lack of showing in a case in which he was
being accused of marijuana possession in Cook county in Georgia.
However, the arrest
that had him end up in custody was the outstanding arrest warrant in
Florida. This is according to news reports.
During a search, USCP agents and the Tobacco, Alcohol, Firearms and Explosives Bureau seized three rounds of .32 caliber ammunition and four rounds of .45 ammunition.
Commenting on the Facebook threats Timothy made, US Attorney Justin Herdman
said that “there is absolutely no place in the marketplace of ideas for
threats of violence against any person, especially those who are
elected to represent the American people.”
At no point should “disagreement on political issues lead to acts of violence,” added the US Attorney. In case that happens, Herdman said that the prosecution would seek federal prison time.
