Dr. Farid Fata openly admitted in court that he intentionally and incorrectly diagnosed healthy people with cancer and administered chemotherapy to them to obtain profits.

This might be a hard pill to swallow, but some doctors don’t always have our best interest in mind.

What’s worse is that we’re currently living in a world where the medical industry has become a profitable empire, and in turn, thousands of people are falsely diagnosed for the sake of money.

This may seem a bleak circumstance, but there’s some good news—with modern information being easily accessible, fraud doctors can now be traced.

Cancer is a severe health issue everyone is fighting against. This disease is one of the leading causes of death for millions of people globally.

Currently, millions of people are affected by this incurable disease in its various forms.

According to The World Health Organization (WHO):

“[Cancer] rises from the rapid creation of abnormal cells that grow beyond their usual boundaries. The change may be started by external agents and inherited genetic factors.”

“More than 60% of the world’s total new annual cases occur in Africa, Asia, and Central and South America. These regions account for 70% of the world’s cancer deaths.”

This painful and fatal illness affects people of all ages and backgrounds, and its treatment is often agonizing and expensive.

According to the Cleveland Clinic:

“Chemotherapy and radiation destroy cancer cells. They also destroy normal cells in the process. These include cells of the protective lining of the mouth and the gastrointestinal tract.”

“This can cause sores in the mouth and/or throat that are painful. The pain can be mild to severe.”

“The gastrointestinal tract can become irritated, which causes nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. These conditions are not permanent, and you might receive medicines to help relieve your symptoms.”

“As your blood counts begin to recover after your infusion of stem cells, your mouth and throat will begin to heal, and nausea and vomiting will also improve.”

“Certain side effects can happen months or years after your transplant. They can be caused by radiation or chemotherapy, and some can be permanent, such as sterility…”

Despite the disastrous side effects of these treatments, the hope of many people weakens due to the lies and bad decisions of some doctors.

This was the case with Dr. Farid Fata, an oncologist in Michigan who operated many upscale clinics in Detroit-area suburbs.

US Attorney Barbara McQuade said in a press release:

“Dr. Fata did not care for patients; he exploited them as commodities. He over-treated, under-treated, and outright lied to patients about whether they had cancer so that he could maximize his own profits.”

Dr. Fata pleaded guilty to 13 healthcare and financial fraud charges.

He admitted to prescribing and administering unnecessary cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and infusion therapies to 553 patients, to increase billings, which totaled about $34,000,000 to Medicare and private insurance companies.

In tear-chocked voice, Fata confessed in court:

“I have violated the Hippocratic oath and violated the trust of my patients.”

“I do not know how I can heal the wound. I do not know how to express the sorrow and the shame.”

“They came to me seeking compassion and care. I failed them. My sins are many.”

Fata is now serving his service at a prison in Michigan.
