It’s confirmed that the Twilight Saga star, Robert Pattinson, will be playing as Batman in the upcoming ‘The Batman’ superhero film, which will be released on June 25, 2021.
In early May, it was revealed that Robert Pattinson was the frontrunner in the race to become the new Batman.
But the internet saw a massive uproar amongst the DC fans who never expected to see a complete outsider take up the place of their beloved icon. Batman is a role for the chosen few.
The fans gave an outcry arguing that Robert Pattinson wasn’t amongst the chosen actors.
Rumors spread that other actors such as Nicholas Hoult and Scott Adkins were also in the race for the Batman role.
But those rumors have been put to rest.
Warner Brothers have officially embraced Robert Pattinson to become the new Batman of the DC Extended Universe.
After playing the role of a vampire in ‘Twilight’ and trying his magic in ‘Harry Potter,’ Robert Pattinson, 33, will now be stepping into the superheroes and villains fantasy world.
Since the film is expected to be released in 2021, Pattinson has almost two years to perfect his new role. He’ll work closely with ‘The Batman’ director, Matt Reeves, and the production will commence soon.
Reeves, who’s also the filmmaker of the ‘Planet of the Apes’ sequels, took over Batman directing duties from Ben Affleck in January 2017, and he has been developing the elusive project ever since.
Pattinson’s new role as the Batman was confirmed on May 31.
Pattinson was considered as the frontrunner because the director liked him, but the studio was torn between him and Nicholas Hoult.
The studio even took both actors on screen test because the role was a vital decision on Warner Bros DC franchise.
After the screen test, Hoult, who starred in ‘Tolkien’ was described as ‘impressive,’ but Pattinson was selected for the role.
Pattinson will be the second youngest actor to play as a superhero, after the 31-year-old Christian Bate. The studio was also looking for an actor who was in his early 30s, which made Pattinson their perfect choice.
Many fans were pleased to hear that their beloved ‘Remember Me’ star will be playing as the Batman. But some were against the decision such that they even launched a petition to prevent Pattinson from securing the role, but of course, they didn’t succeed.
The film will not carry on the works of the old Batman, Ben Affleck, and Pattinson will have to make the role on his own.
