The Umbrella Academy season 2 returns to Netflix in July 2020.

Netflix has been teasing the second season of last year’s epic The Umbrella Academy for the past few months now.

But finally, the creators of this highly-anticipated show have confirmed the premiere date for the second installment.

When Will The Umbrella Academy Season 2 Premiere?

The dysfunctional-family superheroes will return with a new set of adventures on July 31, 2020, on Netflix.

This show is a Netflix Original series. It’s based on the comic book ‘Umbrella Academy’ by Gerard Way.

The concept for the book came to Gerard while touring with ‘My Chemical Romance.’

In between the concerts and gigs, Gerard began to write his own superhero universe.

And illustrator Gabriel Ba designed the unique look to the comic series.

Season 1 Recap

The show follows bizarre events after 43 infants were born on the same day to random, unconnected women.

Mysteriously, the mothers of these infants showed no signs of pregnancy prior giving birth.

A billionaire Reginald Hargreeves (aka “The Monocle”) adopted seven of the infants, in the Netflix adaptation.

He then created the Umbrella Academy and prepared his “children” to save the world.

After their father’s passing, the six surviving siblings reunite to solve a mystery surrounding their father’s death.

At the same time, they also faced an impending global apocalypse.

The first season of the show hit screens back in February 2019.

And within the first month of release, Netflix reported over 45 million fans had watched the show, sparking its renewal.

Producers confirmed the release date of the show on social media.

They shared a hilarious video featuring the castmates dancing to Tiffany’s rendition, I Think We’re Alone Now.

The trailer is pretty much the most perfect teaser ever!

The Umbrella Academy Second Season Has 10 Episodes

The casts set to reprise their roles include Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda and Emmy Raver-Lampman.

Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher and Justin H. Min will also be returning.

There are also new faces in the second season.

They include Good Omens‘ Yusuf Gatewood (Raymond), Marin Ireland (Sissy) and Humans‘ Ritu Arya as Lila, a mischievous “chameleon.”

As the first season of the show drew to a close, the siblings managed to make up and reconcile.

However, they weren’t successful in stopping the apocalypse.

In an earlier interview with Entertainment Weekly, Blackman explained he wanted the show to have a perfect cliffhanger:

“I wanted to have an ending where they sort of came together as a family. But they didn’t achieve the greater goal of saving the world…”

“I also thought it was too easy for this family to come together in eight days and save the world. It has to be trickier than that.”

In the second season, Steve Blackman is once again serving as the showrunner.

Gerard and Gabriel will retain their roles as co-executive producers.
