white woman lists all the things she had to learn after marrying a black man, list goes viral

A woman goes viral after sharing an eye-opening list of things she had to learn after marrying a black man.

From Ohio, Pamela Chandler became tired of people denying racism and complaining ‘racism isn’t a thing.’

So, to show racism indeed affects people every day, she shared a list of all the things she’s had to learn since marrying her husband, Walter, who’s black.

Starting her post, Pamela wrote:

“So as a white woman married to a black man and raising a biracial child, I’ve had to unlearn a lot of things.”

“I’ve also had to learn twice as much.”

“I’ve had to become aware and start to notice things my mind never would have before.”

“My husband, Walter, and I were recently discussing these things, and here’s a list of all the things we’ve encountered.”

Speaking to Good Morning America about his list, Pamela said:

“The examples I wrote were just the ones we thought of in five minutes. The list is probably three times that long.”

“I was tired of reading posts from people in my circle about how ‘racism isn’t a thing. How they are tired of the protests and didn’t understand Black Lives Matter.”

Pamela has since received so much positive feedback over her post, which garnered more than 100K likes and shares.

Moreover, her post went viral, inspiring her to create a blog, The Chandler Crew, to connect with like-minded people worldwide.

She said:

“I hope the page can be a place of connection. I think a lot of racism is born from fear, and there’s nothing to fear about my husband.”

“He’s a kinder person than I am most of the time.”

However, as much as Pamela is happy that she inspired people to speak out, she feels it’s not right that it was her, a white woman, whose perspective went viral.

She argues that ‘plenty of people of color have spoken to these issues many times, but society ignores them.

Pamela explained.

“I’ve always known that we [as a society] needed to work for more racial unity.”

“But I got an inside and unique perspective of what it’s like to live as a different race by [marrying] a black man.”

Pamela also said she doesn’t think our racial problems are ‘too big for us.’ She believes we can all untangle them.

She said:

“I see society improving. People are willing to talk about it, engage, learn, and try to be better humans.”

“I think we are all trending upwards as a society, and I think that’s great.”
