A police officer and his service dog have unexpectedly gone viral after a woman captured them taking selfies together.

When many people hear the word ‘dog,’ they often think of a goofy, fluffy animal that’s the world’s best pet. After all, most families own pooches, be it a big Rottweiler or a tiny Chihuahua.

But there’s also another dog category that doesn’t immediately cross everyone’s mind: the working dogs. These professional, four-legged friends are specially trained to perform certain tasks.

Service dogs assist people with mental or physical disorders. Herding dogs help out on farms.

And one of the well-known classes of service dogs is that of police dogs, also known as K9.

Although police dogs might be perceived as scary, mainly because they’re usually deployed to assist in matters relating to crimes, that doesn’t mean they aren’t just regular goofy dogs that enjoy petting and fun-time with their owners.

One such dog was spotted in a much lighter setting when a woman captured a police officer taking selfies with his service dog.

Officer Andre Cloyd and his pooch Zigi were patrolling at Love Field Airport on a weekend when a traveler captured a series of adorable photos of the work partners posing for selfies together.

The traveler, Gina Anzaldua, then uploaded the pictures to a dog group on Facebook, telling members how Cloyd seemed to show every selfie to Zigi after taking it.

Anzaldua wrote in the post, which had been shared by tens of thousands of people by the time it got back to Cloyd:

“That sweet [boy] was his partner, not just a dog.”

It wasn’t long before Cloyd stumbled across the post and came forward with the selfies he knew everyone wanted to see.

“Just a couple good boys looking for the bad guys! Thank you for your service!”

Another said:

“I flew out of DAL yesterday! I wish I would have seen Zigi. I would have loved to pet him on his lunch break.”

In a media interview, Cloyd revealed that being a part of the Dallas Police Department’s K-9 Unit is an ‘honor’ because he’s been an animal lover his whole life.

He said:

“To get paid to do something you’ve loved since the age of four, it’s a privilege, definitely. Zigi’s the star, but even more so, we’re just a small piece of a unit, a department and a law enforcement community that does everything we can to ensure the safety of the passengers.”

These two seem like devoted partners who aren’t afraid to have some fun together!
